Social housing allocations
Published: 22 February 2022
Sevenoaks District Council is asking residents to give their views on how social housing should be allocated in the future.
Social housing in Sevenoaks is owned and managed by housing associations. Locally these include West Kent, Moat, People for Places and others. The demand for social housing is always higher than the number of homes available.
Sevenoaks District Council manage the Housing Register, which is the waiting list of people who qualify for social housing. To ensure social housing is allocated fairly, the ‘Housing Register Allocations Scheme' sets out who is eligible to join the Housing Register and how to prioritise those registered.
The Council is proposing a number of changes to the existing scheme to give local people the best chance of securing social housing.
Cabinet member for Housing, Cllr Kevin Maskell says: “We’re really keen hear what you think of our revised social housing scheme.
“The proposed changes include giving social housing priority to people who have lived or worked in the District for three years, social housing tenants who want to downsize and carers who receive ‘Carer's Allowance’ or equivalent.
“As a small thank you for your time, residents who complete our survey can enter a free prize draw to win one of four £50 Marks and Spencer vouchers.”
Residents can express their views by visiting www.sevenoaks.gov.uk/socialhousingsurvey
The survey will remain open until 5pm on Monday 18 April 2022.
